It’s not all that often you see Ben Stiller star in a film. Lately, he’s mainly stayed behind the camera as a filmmaker. But for “Nutcrackers,” we see Still return to comedy as a leading man.
As seen in the trailer, “Nutcrackers” tells the story of a work-obsessed man who finds himself having to take care of his four rambunctious nephews, who are dealing with the loss of their parents. And wouldn’t you know it? The boys connect with their Uncle and create a new bond between them.
The cast includes Ben Stiller, Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, Toby Huss, Homer Janson, Ulysses Janson, Arlo Janson, and Atlas Janson. The film is directed by David Gordon Green. “Nutcrackers” marks a bit of a return for Green, as he has been playing in the horror genre for quite a few years now. This film sees him return to a family dramedy.
We saw “Nutcrackers” when it screened at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and in our review, we said, “More artfulness is to be expected from filmmakers like Green and Stiller. As a bare minimum, the privilege of making movies today must demand that they rise above the level of a script that might have been written by ChatGPT.”
“Nutcrackers” arrives on Hulu on November 29. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Nutcrackers follows strait-laced and work obsessed Mike (Stiller) as he is suddenly thrust into being a caregiver for his rambunctious, orphaned nephews.
