'Ode To Joy' Exclusive Clip: Morena Baccarin's Tempting Offer Is Too Much For Martin Freeman In New Rom-Com

Let’s be real, if actress Morena Baccarin not-so-subtlely invited anyone up to her apartment for some, uh, intimate relations, most people would likely have an extreme reaction. But in the case of Martin Freeman’s character in the upcoming romantic comedy “Ode to Joy,” there’s a medical condition that explains why he suddenly passes out.

In honor of “Ode to Joy” debuting next week, we’re happy to present our readers with an exclusive clip from the film, which shows the basic premise in a truly funny, endearing way. The film follows a hapless single guy, who can’t seem to find a romantic partner due to his crippling narcolepsy. Unfortunately, his illness is triggered by extreme emotional reactions, as seen in the clip.

The clip shows Freeman’s character ending an early afternoon date with the girl of his dreams (Baccarin), who doesn’t mince words and offers the man the opportunity to have sex with her. At first, the man keeps his cool, but when the woman gets downright explicit, that’s when the narcolepsy kicks in and he immediately passes out.

“Ode To Joy” stars Freeman and Baccarin alongside Melissa Rauch, Jake Lacy, Jane Curtin, Shannon Woodward, and Adam Shapiro. The film is written by Max Werner and directed by Jason Winer. The director previously helmed episodes of major network comedy series like “Modern Family,” “Life in Pieces,” and “Single Parents.”

“Ode To Joy” arrives in theaters and OnDemand/Digital on August 9.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) has fallen in love and can’t get up. A man’s fervent attempts at subverting happiness once it begins to cause him bouts of narcolepsy are put to the ultimate test when he falls in love.
