Olivia Colman To Join The Cast Of Marvel Studios' 'Secret Invasion' TV Series

Christian Bale is in a new ‘Thor’ film. Jake Gyllenhaal was in the recent ‘Spider-Man’ feature. Oscar Isaac is in a “Moon Knight” TV series. Marvel really just doesn’t have any trouble landing true A-listers for roles, huh? So, it really shouldn’t be any surprise the studio is able to land an Oscar-winner like Olivia Colman for a supporting role in a Disney+ TV series. But somehow, it’s still shocking. But in the best way.

According to THR, Marvel Studios is in negotiations with Olivia Colman for a role in the forthcoming Disney+ TV series, “Secret Invasion.” If she joins the cast, she’ll team with already-announced actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. The series is seemingly inspired by the comic book series of the same name, which follows the story of a group of shapeshifting Skrulls that have infiltrated the Avengers and the US Government by replacing important political and superhero figures.

Colman is probably best known for her Oscar-winning role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite.” She’s also well known for her recent performance in the Emmy-winning series, “The Crown.” Let’s not forget, she’s also up for another Oscar this year, for her supporting role in the acclaimed drama, “The Father.” Oh and she’s just one of the most interesting, respected actresses working today, full stop. And now, she’s going to star in a superhero TV series about shapeshifting aliens. Go figure.

“Secret Invasion” is one of a bunch of series that Marvel Studios is sending to Disney+ over the next couple of years. The series spins off of the recently billion-dollar success of “Captain Marvel,” where Jackson and Mendelsohn played a super spy-alien buddy cop duo. And it’s that chemistry that seems to be the inspiration for having them reunite for a full TV series.

It’s unclear when “Secret Invasion” will be released on Disney+ but production is expected to begin later this year, pointing to a 2022 debut.
