One of the most anticipated series of 2022 is nearing, as HBO Max is prepping the release of “Our Flag Means Death.”
As seen in the first teaser for the comedy series, “Our Flag Means Death” stars Rhys Darby as a new pirate on the scene who comes across a very interesting cast of characters, including Blackbeard (played by Taika Waititi, who also directs the pilot). As you might expect, with Darby and Waititi leading the way, this series is going to be a blast. “Our Flag Means Death” is showrun by David Jenkins.

Interestingly, though Darby and Waititi have worked together quite a bit in the past, they’ve never acted on screen together. So, as is apparent in a new EW interview, the dynamic between the two friends changed quite a bit on set.
“I hadn’t really acted alongside [Waititi] at all,” Darby said. “So when he came aboard as [Blackbeard], all hell broke loose because no one’s telling him what to do. Now [we’re costars] and he’s not capable of telling me what to do!”
“They are like an old married couple in certain ways,” Jenkins said. “If a scene isn’t quite working, Taika will be able to grumble about Rhys, and vice versa, in the way that only friends can. And then when it is popping, they know how to get the best out of each other. There’s a generosity and a real sweetness between them that you wouldn’t get if you weren’t using those two friends.”
“Our Flag Means Death” arrives on HBO Max in March. You can watch the first teaser below:
