Thankfully, as the film industry becomes more inclusive and diverse, we start to see new takes on Hollywood staples. Such is the case with “Our Son,” a film that takes a story we’ve seen so many times before in various family dramas, but because it’s shown through the lens of a marriage between two men, it feels unique and different.
As seen in the trailer, “Our Son” tells the story of a marriage falling apart and the devastation that it causes in the couple’s lives, as well as the life of their young son caught in the crossfire. The two men have to navigate what life looks like apart, how to tell their families about the issues, and the dramatic custody battle that ensues.
The film stars Luke Evans and Billy Porter. “Our Son” is directed by Bill Oliver, who also co-wrote the film alongside Peter Nickowitz. The filmmaker is best known for his directorial debut, 2018’s “Jonathan.”
“Our Son” arrives in select theaters on December 8 before hitting VOD on December 15. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Nicky (Luke Evans), a book publisher devoted to his work, lives with his husband Gabriel (Billy Porter), a former actor and stay-at-home dad, and their eight year-old son, Owen. Gabriel loves Owen more than anything; Nicky loves Gabriel more than anything. Despite appearances, Gabriel has been dissatisfied with their marriage for some time and files for divorce, leading to a custody battle that forces both of them to confront the changing reality of their love for each other and for their son.
