So will Brad Pitt’s troubled, big summer movie manage to bounce back from the all the rumors and speculation and make the $400 million it needs to break even? Early reviews can’t break away from that narrative and movie, for better or worse, is being judged both on what it is and what it could have been. But Paramount, and particularly Pitt — who hit four cities in one day to pop in and wave to crowds at advance screenings — are pushing this one with all the muscle they’ve got, which leads us to…
…over twenty new pics and 7 TV spots for the movie. Damn! Lots to ogle here, but most of it is composed of Brad Pitt being stoic and ready to kill things, while the promos show of bits and pieces of new footage, whilst also selling a tone of total dread and action. Sounds about right. As for us, we said the movie: “….wants to be ‘Zombie Dark Thirty‘ — a no-nonsense procedural showing the zombie apocalypse as it would happen in the real world. On the other, it’s a for-the-cheap-seats would-be-blockbuster with CGI swarms of the undead, and a plane crash sequence that features the three stupidest things we’ve seen in a movie in at least a year (you’ll know them when you see them…)”
Anyway, tons to gawp at if you haven’t made your mind up yet, prepare for the undead on June 21st.
