And “Parachute” stars another up-and-coming performer on the cusp of a breakout: “Yellowjackets” star Courtney Eaton. Will Eaton’s turn as a young woman figuring out her life as she struggles with an eating disorder launch her career higher (and, in turn, solidify Snow as a director to watch)? Critics and audience decide next month when the film hits theaters, but reviews from SXSW 2023 hint that this intimate drama could be a winner.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Parachute,” courtesy of Vertical Entertainment:
In Parachute, Riley is a fun and energetic young woman, but struggles with an eating disorder and body image issues. Ethan is a once-promising musician in the end of his 20s. The two meet and just “click.” To Ethan, all of Riley’s flaws are beautiful, and he wants to help her see herself the way he does. Riley adores Ethan and is inspired by his talent and selflessness. Their relationship is a balancing act between their love for each other and their combustible personal issues. But they truly feel like soulmates and the world makes sense only when they take it on together.
Along with Eaton, “Parachute” also stars Thomas Mann, Francesca Beale, Gina Rodriguez, Joel McHale, Dave Bautista, and Scott Mescudi. Along with directing, Snow co-writes the film’s script with Becca Gleason.
The Playlist’s review for “Parachute” out of SXSW last year gave it a “B+,” praising its “psychologically introspective” script and its “purposefully de-glammed examination of body image and self-loathing.” So how will general audiences feel about it?
