When “WandaVision” debuted a couple of years ago, the series not only served as the first TV show from Marvel Studios, but it also gave the studio a chance to try something very different, specifically with the style. Most of the episodes were homages to classic TV, down to different theme songs with each new era. Those songs, along with the “Agatha All Along” moment, are probably some of the most memorable aspects of that show (or any MCU series, to date, for that matter). And it appears the musicality is going to continue with the first “WandaVision” spinoff, “Agatha: Coven of Chaos.”
In a new interview with THR, “Agatha: Coven of Chaos” actor, Patti LuPone, was asked if the new series would borrow any of the musical aspects of “WandaVision.” Specifically, she was asked if the coven of witches, led by Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha, would be singing in the new series. And it appears that will definitely be the case.
“They do,” revealed LuPone. “Our lead singer is Kathryn. I’m singing backup, and the songs have been written by Kristen and Bobby Lopez.”
For those who remember “WandaVision,” Kristen and Bobby Lopez are the musical duo who wrote the theme songs and the “Agatha All Along” number from that show. So, the fact that they’re returning for ‘Agatha’ is great news.
LuPone added that she had some notes for the ‘Agatha’ crew about her place in the coven chorus.
“I said, ‘Listen, I don’t harmonize. I’ve always been a soprano. I’ve always been on the top line.’ But it’s just been great fun,” she said. “There’s no CGI either. What I am seeing on this show is craft.”
Previously, LuPone, who is out there promoting her new film, “Beau is Afraid,” had already spilled the beans about her character in the Marvel series. She said that her role is as Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch with the power of divination. Not much else is known about the series, which is in production now and is likely not going to debut until 2024.
