Paul Schrader Calls 'Joker: Folie à Deux' A "Bad Musical" & Walked Out During His Screening

Paul Schrader doesn’t give a fuck. He really doesn’t. And you can tell just from reading his social media posts or the interviews he’s given over the past several years. The most interesting posts he makes are about other people’s films, where he gives the most honest critique. Sometimes his opinion about a film is positive, but other times it’s… not great.

In a recent piece for Interview, Paul Schrader was asked about his thoughts regarding “Joker: Folie à Deux,” and you know he wasn’t about to hold back.

“I saw about 10 or 15 minutes of it,” explained Schrader. “I left, bought something, came back, saw another 10 minutes. That was enough.”

It makes you wonder–what did Paul Schrader buy at the mall when he walked out of ‘Joker’ the first time?

He added, “It’s a really bad musical…I don’t like either of those people. I don’t like them as actors. I don’t like them as characters. I don’t like the whole thing. I mean, those are people who, if they came to your house, you’d slip out the back door.”

Obviously, this isn’t a controversial take on “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The reviews, both from critics and filmgoers alike, have been harsh about Todd Phillips’ new film. And the box office is somehow even worse, as it looks like the sequel is set to lose up to $200 million during its theatrical run

If you haven’t seen it yet, and you want to be a glutton for punishment, you can watch “Joker: Folie à Deux” in theaters now.
