Got a Tip?

Peter Jackson Rumored To Be Choosing Between DC Superheroes And Middle-Earth For His Next Project

Since the end of the highly-debated ‘Hobbit’ Trilogy, Peter Jackson has remained fairly quiet. While he’s producing the upcoming film “Mortal Engines,” we have yet to hear anything concrete about his next film behind the camera. Well, according to a new rumor, that’s because the filmmaker has a very important decision to make. Go back to Tolkien or venture into the world of caped crusaders.

OneRing.net tweeted something that has a lot of people talking. “Decisions are being made by Peter Jackson and his NZ crew: Return to Middle-earth with Amazon, or play in the DC Universe?” says the tweet. While this is purely in the realm of rumors, OneRing has been known to break news surrounding the filmmaker in the past. And if this is the case, then Jackson is ready to line up his next project, but the decision isn’t quite as simple as it might appear.

On the one hand, you have a return to the franchise that put him on the map. Amazon has announced plans for their massive “Lord of the Rings” series, which has reportedly will begin production soon and is backed by a billion-plus dollar investment from the streaming giant. This seems like a clear fit for the filmmaker, who blew audience’s minds with his original ‘Rings’ trilogy. But you have to wonder if Jackson wants to devote several more years of his life to a franchise that has dominated his career?

However, on the other hand, there’s the unknown. What would a Peter Jackson superhero film look like? Especially one in the DC film universe? Maybe the director would like to try his hand at Superman? Or maybe Warner Bros. wants him to launch a new franchise with more fantasy elements? The possibilities are endless, and Jackson has proven that he’s not afraid of a big-time adaptation with a huge budget.

Ultimately, either way, it looks like news on Peter Jackson’s next major project is forthcoming, and he’s definitely not looking at making a small arthouse film.
