Peter Sarsgaard Added To The Cast Of 'The Batman' & Fans Think They Have His Role Figured Out

Gotham City continues to become a bit more crowded. With the recent announcement of John Turturro to the cast of Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman,” it’s clear that the filmmaker has no intention of slowing down his announcements. And his latest casting brings acclaimed actor Peter Sarsgaard to the film.

On Twitter, Reeves simply tweeted a GIF of the actor, accompanied by, “Oh… Hi, Peter… ????.”

Whatever that means.

Well, what we do know what it means, given that all Reeves tweets about now are casting announcements for “The Batman,” is that Peter Sarsgaard is the latest actor to join the growing cast of the upcoming superhero film. However, unlike other actors being announced, we don’t immediately know exactly who Sarsgaard is set to portray in “The Batman.” THR says that he could be a corrupt cop named Wasserman or a district attorney.

For now, at least.

You see, over on Instagram, some fans have already done some sleuthing and think they have an idea. Sarsgaard is married to fellow actor Maggie Gyllenhaal, who recently posted an Instagram picture of her husband with half of his head shaved, with the caption, “Half way through a shave…”

You can probably see where this is going, right? The fans take that picture as a not-so-subtle hint that the latest addition to the cast of “The Batman” is set to portray District Attorney Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, in the film, as the character is best known for having half of his face horribly disfigured due to acid (or in Christopher Nolan’s film, “The Dark Knight,” due to a bad burn).

Obviously, take that with a huge grain of salt, but crazier things have surely happened before. All we know for certain is that Matt Reeves is putting together a cast that can rival just about any other superhero film (yes, even “Avengers: Endgame”) and that makes us extremely happy. Speaking of Marvel, this is not the first time Sarsgaard has appeared in a superhero film, having starred as one of the villains in “The Incredible Hulk.”

“The Batman” is expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
