Pharrell Writes 'Despicable' Tunes; Michael Cera Takes Drugs For Islands

Boasting an amazing cast of comic heavyweights including Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Jason Segel, Kristin Wiig, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Julie Andrews (between this and “The Tooth Fairy”, what is she thinking?) and Ken Jeong it’s almost miraculous how painfully unfunny the trailers for next summer’s animated family film “Despicable Me” have been. Yesterday, Universal announced that Pharrell Williams has been hired to write original music for what is shaping up to be one of the oddest kids films in years. Given the talent behind the film, we’re beginning to wonder if the studio realizes this is film for families and not fratboys. Anyway, a first taste of what Pharrell has in store (and it’s really not all that far off from the minimalist beats he usually produces) can be heard in the trailer and the full track is below for your listening pleasure. It’s pretty forgettable, and unless the producer ropes in someone like the The Clipse to make an appearance our interest in this is pretty non-existent.

Finally, Michael Cera takes some pills and goes on a trip in the video for indie-pop group Islands’ “No You Don’t.” The video is a parody of high school anti-drug films, but the schtick gets old fast. But if you ever wondered what Cera would do or look like if he was tripping balls, here’s your chance.
