There’s television and then there’s “Louie.” Comedian Louis C.K. has brought an auteur approach to his show, one that has consistently challenged the traditional notions of thirty-minute television, and a program that has seen him bring in a wealth of guest stars, not always playing cameos, but carefully selected for their contributions. From David Lynch to Bob Saget to Chloe Sevigny, C.K. has kept audiences on their toes, but there’s one guest spot we’ll sadly never get to see.
Speaking with Yahoo, upcoming guest star Jeremy Renner—whose episode will air next week—revealed that none other than Philip Seymour Hoffman had been lined up for a role before he passed away. “I play a real character in Louie’s life,” Renner teased about his role. “Phil [Seymour] Hoffman was supposed to be in it, too. It’s about young Louie, so he isn’t even acting in it—he’s just directing it. Yeah, then Phil unfortunately passed, but I guess they were able to pull the episode together.”
Damn, another project with which we won’t get to see what Hoffman would have done. As for Renner, while he enjoyed the small screen break, his current schedule is filled with blockbuster spectacles. “It’s kind of unlikely,” Renner said about taking a more regular TV gig. “In fact, I’m kind of strapped time-wise doing ‘Avengers 2,’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 5‘ is rearing its head, and then they want to do another ‘Bourne‘ movie. It’s unlikely I can find the time right now. And that’s all right. It’s just really high-class problems—pretty awesome to have.”
So enjoy Renner on TV while you can. His episode of “Louie” airs on June 9th.
