While Apple TV+ hasn’t yet dominated the streaming landscape (the service is still less than two years old, to be fair), the platform has made serious strides in landing top-tier talent and incredibly interesting stories for its TV and film productions. And that definitely applies to the new TV series, “Physical.”
Though “Physical” has already premiered on Apple TV+, it’s never too late to jump on the ‘80s aerobics bandwagon. And if you need a little nudge, we’re happy to give our readers an exclusive look at an upcoming episode of the prestige series to show you what you can expect from the Rose Byrne-led show.
For those unaware, “Physical” comes from director Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya” and “Cruella”) and stars Byrne as a housewife who is trying to figure out a way for her to bring in money while also perhaps launching a new business that she’s passionate about. But, as the new clip shows so well, “Physical” isn’t a story about a would-be entrepreneur overcoming the odds to build an empire. There are elements of that, to be sure. However, the real crux of the story is the internal struggle for the main character, as she has to overcome her own mental illness to become someone better.
That’s a lot going on for a show that seems steeped in ‘80s nostalgia that feels like it could co-exist in the same universe as “Stranger Things.” However, that’s exactly what showcases what Apple TV+ is doing with its series. Strong premise, A-list cast, and an acclaimed filmmaker. What else do you need to know?
“Physical” debuts new episodes on Fridays on Apple TV+. You can watch the exclusive clip below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne) is a quietly tormented housewife in ’80s San Diego, who, behind closed doors, battles extreme personal demons and a vicious inner voice. But things change when she discovers aerobics, sparking a journey toward empowerment and success.
