We’ll admit, our gaming days are behind us (though we’ll sit down for anything with the words “Grand Theft Auto” in the title) so we’re kind of non-plussed by the recent news that Brad Pitt’s Plan B are teaming up Indian giant Reliance BIG Entertainment (who seem to be involved with a lot of Hollywood players these days) for a big screen adaptation of “Dark Void.”
The game, which is set to drop on January 19, 2010, is about “a cargo pilot named Will who, after crashing in the Bermuda Triangle, ends up in a parallel universe where a band of humans must fight an alien threat that had long been thought extinct.” Meh. Brad Pitt also has the option of starring in the picture, but something tells us that doesn’t seems likely. Then again, if his nutty new braided goatee-bead beard is any indication of where his head’s at, anything is possible.
Of course, we would imagine that any future projects that massive CGI and aliens all depends on the reception “Avatar” gets in the next couple of weeks. You can bet that if the film opens even slightly below expectations, Hollywood bean counters are going to put a freeze on any project in the development with the words “universe,” “aliens” and “CGI.” You can check out a trailer for the game below which might us an insight into the look filmmakers might be going for with this one.
Francis Lawrence is set to reteam with his “Constantine” and “I Am Legend” producing buddy Akiva Goldsman for an adaptation of the young adult graphic novel “In The Small.” The concept is actually pretty cool (though we’ll have to wait to see what kind of havoc the creative genius Goldsman wreaks on it), as it follows “a strange explosion that leaves all humans six inches tall, yet nothing else is affected. Those who survive the transition are forced to create a new social order and adjust in a world where man is no longer at the top of the food chain. As they attempt to find out what happened, humanity is faced with a new and existential threat.” Previously this month, it was announced Lawrence and Goldsman were attached to a WWII-less “Sgt. Rock,” but with that film currently out for a rewrite, we won’t be surprised if “In The Small,” which already has a draft ready to go, gets bumped ahead in queue.
Yes, we know “Iron Man 2” is still six months out, but in this current “anything is news even if we make it up” climate of reporting, where meetings turn into confirmations of casting decisions, any little of scrap of info can be spun into an exclusive. So with that mind, Faran Tahir’s recent interview comments that Mandarin might make a return to the world of “Iron Man” is interesting but not really surprising. Considering the War Machine plotline seems to be the direction the franchise is going in, and that Jon Favreau and Marvel are trying to build out an Avengers universe, yes, Mandarin will probably appear at some point in the future. So, um, yeah that’s the story.
In that same vein of – hey! this might be a story! – Collider has confirmed that Wachowski sibling have……some projects in development! And they have no details on what they are! Holy shit, we’re so excited!
