‘Playdate’ Trailer: Alan Ritchson & Kevin James Try & Reinvent The Action Buddy Comedy

Can parents handle a get-together gone wrong? Prime Video’s “Playdate” sees two dads meet up for their kids’ playdate. Brian, an accountant, is in for more than he bargained for thanks to vicious mercenaries. Together with the skilled Jeff, they’re about to face off against one challenge after another.

Alan Ritchson stars as the stay-at-home father who seems too comfortable taking on intruders. The actor’s popularity continues to rise thanks to the popular series “Reacher.” His co-star, Kevin James, is another familiar face to viewers. “The Kings of Queens” leading man transitioned to film with roles in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and “Grown Ups.” “Playdate” also stars Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, and Hiro Kanagawa, with Stephen Root and Isla Fisher rounding out the cast.

The film’s official synopsis:

When recently unemployed accountant Brian (Kevin James) agrees to a playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff (Alan Ritchson) and their sons, he expects an easy afternoon of small talk and football tossing. Instead, he’s thrust into a chaotic scramble to stay alive as they are pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries. Brian stumbles through one ridiculous obstacle after another, his zero tactical skills a stark contrast to Jeff’s oddly prepared demeanor. Director Luke Greenfield (Let’s Be Cops, The Girl Next Door) hilariously collides suburban dad life with high-stakes thrills, transforming an ordinary afternoon into an absurd action-packed adventure where minivan mayhem meets professional hitmen.
