'Possessor' Trailer: Andrea Riseborough Stars In Brandon Cronenberg's Wild Sci-Fi Thriller

Though the title might lead you to believe otherwise, “Possessor” is not a new PG-13 jump scare-filled horror film from Blumhouse. Instead, it’s an incredibly stylish psychological thriller from the mind of Brandon Cronenberg, son of the legendary David Cronenberg. And honestly, this is a much better idea than another lame horror film.

As seen in the NSFW trailer for “Possessor,” Cronenberg’s feature follows the story of an assassin that uses advanced technology to “possess” a person to use their body to execute her targets. But even that premise fails to include the incredible imagery that the filmmaker has included in the thriller, with some of the creepiest and beautiful shots you’ll find in any movie in 2020.

The thriller stars Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, Rossif Sutherland, Tuppence Middleton, Sean Bean, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. As mentioned, “Possessor” is written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg. He previously directed the feature, “Antiviral.”

We were able to catch a screening at the film earlier this year at Sundance. And in our review, we said, “Brandon Cronenberg’s sophomore feature,’Possessor,’ is a bloody existential fever dream that, at its best, is unnerving and thrilling, and, at its worst, is tiring and misbegotten.”

“Possessor” has yet to unveil an official release date, but NEON says it’s “coming soon.”

Here’s the synopsis:

From the visionary mind of writer/director Brandon Cronenberg, POSSESSOR is an arresting sci-fi thriller about elite, corporate assassin Tasya Vos.
