First Poster For Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman'

To those who worried that Martin Scorsese‘s “The Irishman” might suffer the fate of so many Netflix movies, where they are barely promoted before being dumped on the service (please see terrific “Tramps,” or Duncan Jones‘ “Mute” which arrives next month as is still without a trailer), the streaming giant offers a counterpoint.

Somewhat surprisingly, the first poster for “The Irishman” has arrived. It’s certainly the earliest I can remember Netflix promoting anything, but then again, it’s not everyday that you have Martin Scorsese walking through your doors.

Starring Robert De NiroAl Pacino, Joe Pesci, Bobby Cannavale, and Harvey Keitel, the film will tell the story of Frank Sheeran, a high-ranking officer in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters with rumored ties to the deaths of President Kennedy and Jimmy Hoffa. Part of the pricey, $100 million plus budget for “The Irishman” will be spent on CGI to de-age De Niro ‘Benjamin Button‘-style for various sequences of the film.

There’s no release date yet for “The Irishman,” though many are expecting that Netflix are going to make it their Oscar picture this year. A poster at this point certainly suggests they’re very high on whatever they’ve seen so far. As for a theatrical release, well, Netflix is playing coy about that for now.

Update: The poster is apparently #fakenews, but Netflix doesn’t seem to be in any rush to correct anybody. All publicity is good publicity, or something.
