'Predator' Reboot Had To Reshoot "Three-Quarters" Of Third Act According To Keegan-Michael Key

The release date for Shane Black’s upcoming sci-fi action film “The Predator” has changed several times over the last 6 months. We’ll try our best to break it down.

Originally scheduled for March 2, 2018, the film was then pushed ahead to February 9. After that, Fox pushed the release date to August 3. However, it seems like the final release date of September 14 seems to be the one that will stick. At least, we hope so. And after reading comments made by one of the film’s stars, we now know why the studio has been shifting the dates.

Actor/comedian Keegan-Michael Key plays one of the badasses that will get a chance to fight the titular alien in the film. And in a recent interview with CinemaBlend, he was asked what the status was of the action film.

“We just finished [reshoots] last week, and just about three-quarters of the third act was rewritten,” Key said. “And Shane Black is… he’s just a consummate professional, and a consummate writer. He’s a wordsmith! It was a really, really exhilarating experience, and I think that he’s still one of our most vibrant writers of cinema.”

Oh, now it all makes sense. For whatever reason, and it’s bound to be made public sooner or later, Fox and/or Shane Black himself decided to redo almost the entire last act of the film. That would explain the sudden release date changes, as well as the lack of any marketing materials for the film. Fans have been waiting for a trailer, and it’s been hinted that it’ll be coming soon, but now we know why we’ve not heard much about “The Predator.” They’ve been scrambling to finish.

“The Predator” is directed by Black, who also co-wrote the film with Fred Dekker. Fighting the Predator in the film, and joining Key in the cast, is Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, and Jacob Tremblay.

As mentioned above, as of now, “The Predator” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 14.
