Netflix is behind a new series version of the Jane Austen landmark novel “Pride & Prejudice” as the project is now set to drop in early December, and to celebrate the release date announcement today, they’ve also dropped a batch of fresh look images for us to share featuring the talented cast that consists of Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (“The Crown,” “The Favourite”) as Mrs. Bennet with Emma Corrin (“The Crown”), and James Bond hopeful Jack Lowden (“Slow Horses”) portraying the iconic pair at the heart of the story.
Others among the rather gigantic cast of new and veteran actors appearing in “Pride & Prejudice” (as expected) include Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Hopey Parish as Mary Bennet, Hollie Avery as Kitty Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Anjana Vasan as Mrs. Gardiner, Sebastian Armesto as Mr. Gardiner, Rosie Cavaliero as Lady Lucas, Saffron Coomber as Mrs. Hurst, James Drydenas Mr. Hurst, Justin Edwards as Sir William, Lucas James Northcote as Colonel Forster, Eloise Webb as Harriet Forster, and Isabella Sermon as Georgiana Darcy.
An official logline for the limited series as provided by Netflix:
When wealthy bachelors arrive in their neighborhood, the five Bennet sisters must navigate love, family, and society’s expectations to secure their futures. Jane falls for the charming Mr. Bingley, while Elizabeth (Corrin) clashes with his proud friend Mr. Darcy (Lowden)– but unexpected encounters and family scandals force Elizabeth to reconsider her feelings and discover the true nature of love.
Euros Lyn is directing the 6-part streaming project, with writer Dolly Alderton handling the adaptation that boasts Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, Alderton, Lyn and Corrin among the executive producing team. While there has already been a brief atmospheric teaser trailer released online (see below), we likely won’t have to wait too much longer before Netflix showcases more footage and gives a better sense of the performances in the limited series, as the marketing push is only just starting up.
“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Corrin told Tudum in a feature profile. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
Check out the new first-look images from “Pride & Prejudice” below, as the latest adaptation of the classic Austen novel arrives exclusively on the streaming service on December 3, sort of an early holiday gift for fans of the author’s mega-popular literary works.
