The last year has been particularly great for actress Sandra Hüller. Not only did she star in two films, “The Zone of Silence” and “Anatomy of a Fall,” that earned Best Picture Oscar nominations, but she herself earned a nomination for her performance in the latter. Now, it appears she has a wealth of producers trying to snatch her up. And her first big Oscars “get” is a role in “Project Hail Mary.”
According to Deadline, Sandra Hüller is set to star in “Project Hail Mary,” a new sci-fi film directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Better yet, Hüller will star opposite Ryan Gosling in the film. “Project Hail Mary” follows the story of a Middle School teacher (Gosling) who wakes up in space with no clue how he got there. But then he finds himself the only person who can save Earth with the help of an alien. It’s unclear which role Hüller is set to occupy.
Well before her wonderful 2023, Hüller was a mainstay in German cinema. In addition to the aforementioned films, she really broke out thanks to her role in “Toni Erdmann.” She also starred in “Sibyl” and “Proxima.”
“Project Hail Mary” will be the biggest film in Hüller’s career up to now. With Gosling on board, thanks to his massive “Barbie” performance, all eyes will be on his next few films. Even though “The Fall Guy” didn’t do as well as it should have in theaters, something like “Project Hail Mary” could end up striking a chord with viewers, as it’s based on a book by the author of “The Martian,” which was a massive hit when it was adapted into a film.
“Project Hail Mary” is set to arrive in theaters on March 20, 2026.
