'Prospect' Trailer: SXSW Sci-Fi Standout Stars Pedro Pascal & Jay Duplass

Every year, there are plenty of new films that weren’t on your radar but soon become very interesting once they premiere at a film festival. While in the last couple weeks, we’ve seen plenty of those film festival premieres in Venice, Telluride, and Toronto, back in March, at SXSW, one movie stood out and surprised us — “Prospect.”

In the new trailer for the film, which is finally seeing release this fall, you can see why “Prospect” surprised audiences. With it’s low-budget, but impressive, take on sci-fi, the film tells the story of a new type of Gold Rush, where the latest mineral that everyone seems to be after is found on a faraway planet. When a father and daughter prospecting team attempt to find this new-age gold mine, they’re interrupted by an outlaw, who changes their lives forever.

Even if the premise isn’t enough to get you excited, the film features roles from Pedro Pascal, Jay Duplass, Andre Royo, and newcomer Sophie Thatcher. When we checked out “Prospect” back in the spring, we were impressed by the performances, and the film reminded us quite a bit of the sci-fi new classic “Moon.”

“Prospect” will be released in select theaters in November.

Here’s the synopsis:

A teenage girl and her father travel to a remote alien moon, aiming to strike it rich. They’ve secured a contract to harvest a large deposit of the elusive gems hidden in the depths of the moon’s toxic forest. But there are others roving the wilderness and the job quickly devolves into a fight to survive. Forced to contend not only with the forest’s other ruthless inhabitants, but with her own father’s greed-addled judgment, the girl finds she must carve her own path to escape.
