It’s been over a decade since the last adventure in the “Shrek” universe (if you don’t count Netflix‘s ‘The Adventures Of Puss In Boots‘ series). But prepare to head back to that world’s offbeat take on fairytale lore with “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish,” a sequel to that series and the 2011 film.
Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the leche-loving, fear-defying feline once more for a new epic journey. This time, the swashbuckling cat realizes he’s used up eight of his nine lives. To get them back, he sets out into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star but must first ask for help from his former partner and nemesis, Kitty Soft Paws. Along the way, they’ll have to deal with the likes of Goldilocks, The Three Bears Crime Family, and the Big Bad Wolf.
Salma Hayek reprises her role as Kitty Soft Paws, and leads a supporting vocal cast that includes Harvey Guillén, John Mulaney, Florence Pugh, and Wagner Moura. Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, Anthony Mendez, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph round out the main cast.
“The Last Wish” is directed by Joel Crawford and produced by Mark Swift, the creative team behind “The Croods: A New Age.” Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri serves as the film’s executive producer.
The “Shrek” films may have dwindled in quality over their run, but they still made more than $3.5 billion worldwide. Is “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” a franchise resurgence? Find out on December 21, when the movie hits theaters everywhere. Watch the trailer below.
