Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated films to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival is Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer.” Not only does it have Guadagnino as a filmmaker—a mainstay at Venice—but it also stars none other than James Bond himself, Daniel Craig. And now, with the film getting screened at the event, we have our first look at a clip from the film.

For those unaware, “Queer” is an adaptation of the novel by acclaimed writer William S. Burroughs. The film tells the stories of an American expat (Craig) in 1940s Mexico City, who becomes infatuated with a younger man (Drew Starkey). Joining those two in the cast are Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, and Drew Droege.
While speaking at Venice (via Deadline), star Daniel Craig talked about the “emotional thump” the novel had on him as a reader, and why he’s so excited to play this role in the film adaptation.
“It is about love, but it’s about loss, it’s about loneliness, it’s about yearning, it’s about all of these things,” said Craig. “And I mean, God, if I was writing myself a part and trying to tick off things that I wanted to do, this would fulfill all of them.”
Shortly after its debut at Venice, “Queer” was picked up for North American distribution by A24. A release date for the film has yet to be announced. You can watch the new clip from the film below:
