Quentin Tarantino Says A Director's Cut Of 'Django Unchained' Is Coming & Says Star Trek Is "A Very Big Possibility"

This year, all we were expecting to talk about in regards to Quentin Tarantino is his upcoming film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Is it going to make it to Cannes? Will it be another quality entry in the filmmaker’s filmography? Just how many stars are actually in it? But here we are, with Cannes on the horizon and the new movie mere months away, and we’re talking about “The Hateful Eight” and “Django Unchained,” which were released in 2015 and 2012, respectively.

The reason for renewed interest in the two films comes from Tarantino’s own renewed interest. You see, the filmmaker recently released a new version of ‘Hateful Eight’ on Netflix, turning the epic film into an extended four-part miniseries. And it appears that the director isn’t done fiddling with his older films.

“But for instance, take ‘Django [Unchained],’ I’ve actually cut a director’s cut of ‘Django,'” revealed Tarantino (via Slashfilm). “That’s about like three hours and 15 minutes, or three hours and 20 minutes, something like that.”

He added, “That’s one I wouldn’t do as a miniseries, because it would just be better [as a movie]. I thought about that idea, but that would just work better as one movie. Just a longer one as far as I was concerned.”

As for when fans will get a chance to see this new director’s cut of ‘Django?’ It appears that we are still months away, as Tarantino is still focused on the task at hand — a little movie called “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

“We’re just kind of waiting some time after ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,’ and we’ll release that eventually,” he said.

Talking about ‘Once Upon a Time,’ ‘Django’ and the extended ‘Hateful Eight’ miniseries isn’t the only thing on Tarantino’s mind. You see, ever since last year’s news broke that the director had an idea for an R-rated “Star Trek” film, fans have been anxiously awaiting word on if/when it will see the light of day. We’ve heard conflicting reports from people that said either it’s legit and coming or that Tarantino just pitched the idea to producer J.J. Abrams and had no real intention of seeing it through.

But it appears that the filmmaker is very much interested in the sci-fi franchise. But again, there’s that pesky ‘Once Upon a Time’ that is taking all his energy and focus right now.

“[‘Star Trek’] a very big possibility,” Tarantino revealed. “I haven’t been dealing with those guys for a while cause I’ve been making my movie. But we’ve talked about a story and a script. The script has been written and when I emerge my head like Punxsutawney Phil, post-‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ we’ll pick up talking about it again.”

You can watch the extended ‘Hateful Eight’ miniseries on Netflix now, and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26.
