Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino loves to talk about films, his own work, and just about everything else to do with the industry. And over the years, his love of talking has led to pontificating about possible sequels and prequels to some of his greatest works. One of those proposed prequels is a film that would have seen Vic and Vincent Vega teaming up.
In a new interview with CinemaBlend, Tarantino was asked what his film featuring the Vega Brothers would have been like. He admits that he didn’t get too far with the development, but did have a title, “Double V Vega.”
Tarantino said the basic plot of the film was “the only thing” he knew about the project and is basically the furthest he went with developing the film, which would have starred John Travolta and Michael Madsen, reprising their roles from “Pulp Fiction” and “Reservoir Dogs,” respectively.
“I don’t think I took it far enough for a story, but I had a premise,” said the filmmaker. “It would have taken place in Amsterdam. So it would have taken place in the time that Vincent was in Amsterdam. Remember in ‘Pulp Fiction,’ he had just come back from Amsterdam and he was telling the whole story. He was running some club for Marcellus.”
He continued, “And so, he was probably there for a couple of years. At some point, in his two-year stay in Amsterdam, running some club, Vic shows up to visit him. And it would have been their weekend. Exactly what happens to them or what trouble they get into, I never took it that far.”
If you’re a fan of Tarantino and those characters, the idea of a weekend of hijinks in Amsterdam featuring the Vega Brothers is likely enticing. Sadly, as the filmmaker said, the project is impossible at this point and had its own “shelf life.”
That being said, perhaps this story and his proposed “Kill Bill Vol. 3” could be used in other mediums down the road. We shall see.
