‘Racer And The Jailbird’ Trailer: Michaël Roskam’s Sexy Crime Thriller Is Finally Hitting Theaters In May

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about director Michaël Roskam’s “Racer and the Jailbird.” The sexy crime saga has been something we’ve been following since early 2017. And at the time of our review, from the Venice Film Festival, there was no official release date in the United States. However, in the new trailer for the film, we see more footage from the sexy heist film, as well as get news on when it will finally see its release in theaters.

As seen in the trailer, “Racer and the Jailbird” relies heavily on the performances of its two leads, portrayed by actors Matthias Schoenaerts and Adèle Exarchopoulos. And in our review from Venice, we are happy to report that the two leads do, in fact, carry the film. According to the review, Exarchopoulos and Schoenaerts “could not boast more chemistry if they were mixed in a conical flask and held over a bunsen burner.”

“Racer and the Jailbird” comes from filmmaker Michaël Roskam, who is perhaps best known for his Academy-award nominated film “Bullhead.” He’s joined by actor Schoenaerts, also from “Bullhead” and a variety of other projects with Roskam. Exarchopoulos is, of course, from the 2013 film, “Blue is the Warmest Colour,” where she received critical acclaim.

As mentioned above, we now know that “Racer and the Jailbird” will hit theaters May 4. You’re definitely going to want to check it out!

Here’s the official synopsis:

As a member of a notorious Brussels gang renowned for their expertly-executed robberies, Gigi (frequent Roskam collaborator Matthias Schoenaerts, The Danish Girl, Red Sparrow) tends to his front, a luxury automobile import-export business, in his downtime. Sparks fly when he meets glamorous and affluent race car driver Bibi (Adèle Exarchopoulos, Blue is the Warmest Color), and despite their wildly different backgrounds, the pair fall instantly and tragically in love. While Gigi attempts to break away from his illicit history, two things stand in the couple’s way to a happy life together: an unrelenting mob hungry for another heist, and the cops that are closing in on them.
