According to Variety, Apple TV+ has brought on Ramin Bahrani to direct “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” and Dominque Fishback has been cast to star opposite Jackson in the genre series. Based on the novel by Walter Mosley, who is scripting the series, as well, ‘Last Days’ tells the story of a lonely 91-year-old man, Ptolemy Grey (Jackson), that is suffering from severe dementia. He’s then given a chance to regain his memories for a brief time, which gives him the opportunity to attempt to solve the mystery of his nephew’s death.
Bahrani is probably best known for his acclaimed features, “Man Push Cart,” “Chop Shop,” and “Goodbye Solo.” However, more recently, he’s worked on the HBO feature, “Fahrenheit 451,” and the crime drama, “The White Tiger.” The latter of which was released earlier this year and has been picking up awards nominations. Recently, on an episode of The Playlist Podcast, you can hear Bahrani tease a new series that he was working on. We can assume it is now ‘Last Days.’
Fishback is an up-and-coming actress that is probably best known for her appearances in series such as “Random Acts of Flyness” and “The Deuce.” However, over the past year, she has really broken out with roles in “Project Power” and the recently-released, award-winning film, “Judas and the Black Messiah.”
It’s unclear when “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” will begin production, but with these folks involved, it appears that Apple TV+ is putting together one hell of a team to bring the mystery series to life.
