'Rampage' Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Deals With Ape Anarchy

It might not sound like rocket science, but in monster movies, audiences want to see the monster. The most recent big screen version of “Godzilla” mostly keep the giant lizard shrouded in the rain. “Kong: Skull Island” mostly improved things by tossing the big ape into a jungle where precipitation didn’t appear to be a problem. Now, “Rampage” places in its primate into the middle of bustling metropolis.

Dwayne Johnson is once again here to save the day, playing a primatologist (lol) who has to use his brains and brawn (let’s be real, mostly brawn) to set things right after a genetic experiment goes wrong. Good thing that scientist didn’t miss a day at the gym. Here’s the official synopsis:

Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth.  But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size.  To make matters worse, it¹s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals.  As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

Co-starring Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, and Matt Gerald, “Rampage” is directed by Brad Peyton opens on April 20th.
