At least once in your lifetime, you’ve played Hide and Seek. The children’s game normally requires one person to close their eyes and count to 100 before opening them and trying to locate their friends around a house, park, or whatever. Well, in the new film “Ready or Not,” the simple game of Hide and Seek is ramped up to a crazy degree as one woman attempts to stay hidden until dawn…or die.
As seen in the trailer for the film, a young bride is being welcomed into an insanely wealthy family that is in control of a board game empire. And as is customary with new members of the family, there’s a bit of an initiation ritual. It just so happens that for the bride, she has to play a modified version of Hide and Seek, where the family gathers weapons and hunts the young woman in a huge mansion.
Oh and to make an already-strange concept even more bonkers, there’s plenty of humor peppered in for good measure. Nothing says funny like an arrow through the throat, right?
“Ready or Not” stars Samara Weaving, who is probably best known for her roles in “SMILF” and the Netflix film “The Babysitter,” as well as the just-announced “Bill and Ted Face the Music.” Joining Weaving in the cast are Andie MacDowell, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, and Henry Czerny.
The film arrives in theaters on August 23.
Here’s the synopsis:
Ready or Not follows a young bride as she joins her new husband’s rich, eccentric family in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival.
