Got a Tip?

Recap: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6, Episode 6 ‘Cause Baby Now We Got Bad ‘Blood of My Blood’

King’s Landing
In other father-son rifts, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is having a real time with his bratty teen son Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman, oh he of petulant pout). When Jaime rides up with the Tyrell army to save Margaery (Natalie Dormer) from her nude Shame Walk, the High Sparrow flips the script — there will be no Shame Walk today, because Margaery has already atoned, and even converted Tommen to their cult. Amazing what a single conjugal visit can do for a horny teenage boy.game-of-thrones-season-6-epsiode-6-EP606-2646[1]

The crowd, sooo pumped to fling human waste at a naked woman, is disappointed that their day’s entertainment is cancelled. Jaime, who pulled out a neat show of horsemanship, galloping his steed right up the steps of King’s Landing, is disappointed, too. TFW the son you conceived with your twin sister doesn’t even know you’re his dad so he doesn’t listen to you.

To make matters worse, Tommen deposes him of the Kingsguard and sends him to deal with the Blackfish because Frey can’t manage it on his own. Shockingly, Cersei (Lena Headey) is in support of this plan since it’s keeping him out of the dungeon. All their scheming and battle plans makes them quite randy. “We’re the only two people in the world,” she breathily heaves, as the brother and sister make out.

Daenerys (Emilia Clark) check in. Listen, this girl is stuck in a story loop. Whenever she finds herself in a shitty situation, she gives a fiery stump speech, punctuated with firewalking and dragons, and fires up whatever warriors manage to be around her. This time, it’s the Dothraki. Drogon shows up, she goes for a spin, shouts at the Dothraki, asks them to be her blood riders and they all shout and cheer. Although it seemed like some of the background actors were more enthused than others.

North of the Wall
Bran’s (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) being dragged around by poor Meera (Ellie Kendrick) in the blizzarding woods, STILL deep into his warg, warging all around history. We see multiple flashes of the Mad King Targaryen, who set King’s Landing ablaze with wildfire, in a cockamamie scheme to turn himself into a dragon. Jaime Lannister killed him, garnering the Kingslayer nickname. Could this be a hint that wildfire would be good to use against the White Walkers? Maybe so.

The wretched teens are beset by zombies and rescued by a mysterious flame-wielding swordsman. Turns out it’s Uncle Benjen Stark (Joseph Mawle)! Good thing Bran did all that warging back in time to familiarize himself with Benjen, beloved younger brother of Ned, who was sent off to the wall. Remember he was Jon Snow’s contact there, until he got lost in the forest and believed dead? Sure you do. He tells the kids he was stabbed with a White Walker ice sword but reanimated by the children of the forest with a dragonstone blade. He seems kinda quasi-zombied, actually. He also claims the Three-Eyed Raven summoned him, so that was either Max von Sydow on his last breath or new Raven, Bran.game-of-thrones-season-6-epsiode-6-EP606-1644[1]

Braavos
Over in Braavos, Arya’s (Maisie Williams) is still watching this fart-forward version of “Game of Thones” for the stage, planning to poison the rum of the lead actress as she’s been hired to do. A long chat with the actress in question leads Arya to a crisis of confidence. “Do you like pretending to be other people?” the actress asks. The answer is no: being Arya Stark is just fine, thank you.

Arya knocks the cup out of her hand, tells the actress to keep an eye out for the scheming younger actress, and marches off to unearth Needle from the rocky hiding spot. FIST PUMPS ALL AROUND! Her horrible roommate witnesses the whole thing so now she has to kill her. Except it’s more than likely Arya will kill her first. RIP in advance, No Name Roommate.

Thoughts on the episode? Can they give Michiel Huisman more to do? Damn, Daario has been very shafted, or maybe they had to write around Huisman’s sched. Also, what’s the over/under on seeing Dorne again? I’m guessing unlikey, since we seem to be rushing toward the finish line of Season 6 as the battle for Winterfell (I’m fine with that). RIP Dorne.
