'Red Dawn' To Premiere & Close Fantastic Fest, Plus Three New Images Of The Cast

null"Red Dawn," the 1984 John Milius film, is a '80s cold-war classic. Not because it's amazing (it's a fun teen actioner), but because of the nostalgia factor involved. And hell, arriving in the heart of the tense Regan/Gorbachev years, it spoke to a lot of us growing up in the era of potential nuclear-war anxiety.

Well, the upcoming "Red Dawn" reboot, starring Chris Hemsworth, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck and Isabel Lucas, is officially now going to make its world premiere appearance as the closing film for Fantastic Fest in Austin on Thursday, September 27. Here's the official synopis and note, if you haven't been paying attention, it's not the Russkies who are the enemy in this one.

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerrilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

Also starring Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, "Red Dawn," the 2012 version is directed by Dan Bradley, a legendary stunt coordinator who orchestrated all the action and stunts for the 'Bourne' films and many more pictures ("Independence Day," "Spider-Man 2 & 3", "Quantum of Solace," to name just a few). He's been in the business since the early '80s, has directed a lot of second-unit too. "Red Dawn" will mark his feature-film directorial debut. So at the very least we'll assume the action in the picture is in good hands. "Red Dawn" hits theater in regular release on November 21. Check out three new images from the film in this post.
