Remake Of David Cronenberg's 'Rabid' Starts Shooting This Summer

nullWhile there has been talking of redoing David Cronenberg films over the past few years — a "Shivers" remake was brewing a while back, and Cronenberg himself had a new take on "The Fly" that 20th Century Fox passed on — none have come to pass. But that changes this summer.

Filmmaking duo Sylvia and Jen Soska (“American Mary,” “Dead Hooker in a Trunk” and “See No Evil 2”) will be directing a remake of "Rabid." Cronenberg’s fourth feature follows a woman (played by porn star Marilyn Chambers in the original) who survives a motorcycle crash, and receives life-saving skin grafts, only to develop a phallic stinger that feeds on blood, turning its victims into zombies. And things get more horrific from there.

There’s no word yet on casting, but with filming gearing up to start in the summer, more news should be coming soon. The producers are also planning a TV series based on "Rabid," but whether or not it connects with movie isn’t yet known. Given the popularity of "The Walking Dead," it’s probably not a shock that they want to try and tap into that market. But what do you think? Is "Rabid" fine as it is, or it could stand to use some contemporary flavor? Let us know below. [Variety]
