Every year brings with it a handful of remakes, but in 2013 horror fans will see two classics of the genre get a redo. Will they live up to their predecessors and stand out on their own? Time will tell, but until then, here are a couple of new looks.
We'll start off with the first image from the Sam Raimi produced "Evil Dead" remake. The first image has arrived and… believe it or not, but that's "Suburgatory" star Jane Levy. Unfortunately, it looks like a still from any other horror movie of the last half decade, but then again, the original film was all about tone and attitude, so we'll see if that holds over. The new spin on the story will follow a group of teens out in the woods to help their friend detox, only to stumble across the Book Of The Dead, and well, you know what happens next. Shiloh Fernandez and Lou Taylor Pucci co-star. Fede Alvarez directs the Diablo Cody co-written script, and the movie lands on April 12, 2013.
Meanwhile, Kimberly Peirce is taking a stab at "Carrie" and she's got Chloe Moretz in the lead. As you know, the story concerns a young woman who, between the bullies at school and her fundamentalist Mom (Julianne Moore), makes prom… unforgettable. A new international poster certainly emphasizes that latter point, and with Moretz promising this will be "Black Swan"-esque, we're certainly eager to see how this turns out. "Carrie" hits on March 15, 2013. [EW/Dark Horizons]
