'Reprisal' Trailer: Abigail Spencer Does Her Best 'Kill Bill' In New Hulu Revenge Series

Although most people tend to think of Quentin Tarantino’sKill Bill” series when it comes to female-driven revenge films, the genre itself existed well before Uma Thurman donned her iconic Bruce Lee-inspired outfit. From classics like “Lady Snowblood,” “Carrie,” and “The Quick and the Dead,” cinema had been showcasing women with a vengeful bone to pick for years. What Tarantino did, however, was perhaps reinvigorate interest in this genre at a time when female badassery was clearly lacking on the silver screen.

But over in the television world, stories about revenge, regardless of gender focus, are not nearly as common. With the exception of maybe the aptly titled “Revenge” from ABC, you’d be hard-pressed to find another notable example from recent years. Creator and Executive Producer Josh Corbin hopes to change this with his new show “Reprisal,” which is set to premiere on Hulu later this year.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Reprisal” is a hyper-noir story that follows a relentless femme fatale who, after being left for dead, sets out to take revenge against her brother and his bombastic gang of gearheads.

The series stars Abigail Spencer (“Rectify”) as the fated femme fatale, and also features Rodrigo Santoro (“Westworld”), Mena Massoud (“Aladdin”), Rhys Wakefield (“True Detective”), Madison Davenport (“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”) and is executively produced by Corbin, Warren Littlefield (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Barry Jossen.

Hulu has released the first official trailer for “Reprisal,” which seems to be set in a world littered with violence and betrayal. Given the anchoring presence of a strong female lead, it’s quite fitting that “Reprisal” is coming from the network that brought us “The Handmaid’s Tale.” The trailer is also notable for featuring an uncredited appearance by Ron Perlman, who likely has a cameo on the show.

“Reprisal” will be released on Hulu on December 6.
