‘Resurrection’ Trailer: Rebecca Hall & Tim Roth Star In The Most Unhinged Psycho Horror Of The Year

You are probably not ready or prepared for the harrowing out of body experience of the riveting and unsettling psychological horror “Resurrection,” starring Rebecca Hall. One of the most unhinged and unsettling movies of the year so far, with very likely nothing toppling it, Hall is obviously one of our most acclaimed actresses, but the work she does in this film is stunning, jaw-dropping, emotionally searing and maybe her best ever.

Moreover, in this frightening story of a capable, disciplined, successful woman, who has her life in order—that is until a horrifying man returns, carrying with him the horrors of her past—also stars a career best performance by Tim Roth.  The two of them, pushing, needling, in a psychological game of gaslighting and escalation, is some of the best toe-to-toe heavyweight acting you will see all year.

Hall recently called the performance “probably one of the more intense things I’ve ever done,” she said in an interview with EW. “It was very physically demanding, but it was also very challenging as an actor. There’s a seven-minute monologue in the middle of it. It was very intense but very rewarding, which I hope is the experience of [watching the] movie.”

“Resurrection” is directed by Andrew Seman, and it just utterly blew us away when we saw it at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (read our A-grade review). Here’s the official synopsis:

Screenwriter and director Andrew Seman’s jaw-dropping sophomore feature, RESURRECTION had its world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Margaret (Rebecca Hall) leads a successful and orderly life, perfectly balancing the demands of her busy career and single parenthood to her fiercely independent daughter Abbie. Everything is under control. But that careful balance is upended when an unwelcome shadow from her past, David (Tim Roth) returns, carrying with him the horrors of Margaret’s past. Battling her rising fear, Margaret must confront the monster she’s evaded for two decades who has come to conclude their unfinished business. RESURRECTION will be released by IFC Films in theaters on July 29th and on Demand on August 5th.  Shudder will be the exclusive streaming home in November 2022.
