For those not familiar with Zhao’s beautiful film, “The Rider” tells the true story of a young rodeo star, who has to discover his place in life after a tragic accident forces him to give up his dream. The film stars Brady Jandreau in a star-making performance, in the role based on his own real-life story.

And because this is a film based on the real story of the star, Zhao had some additional challenges in bringing the film to life. In the exclusive clip, you can hear the acclaimed filmmaker explain how adapting a story to a film that stars the subject, himself, took a little extra care than your typical production.
