One of the most talked-about films in development right now is Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles project. Unlike typical musical biopics, Mendes’ Beatles project is actually split into four films, each focusing on a member of the band. While no casting has been confirmed, so far, we have seen reports claiming which actors are going to be playing the members of the band. And according to Ridley Scott, we can now confirm who’s playing Paul McCartney.

In a recent DGA discussion (via THR) alongside Christopher Nolan, promoting “Gladiator II,” Ridley Scott was asked what is coming next for the filmmaker. There have been reports that he is expected to reteam with Paul Mescal for a new thriller, “The Dog Stars.” While he confirmed “The Dog Stars” is likely next, Scott couldn’t confirm that Mescal would star in the film because the filmmaker says Mescal is going to be busy with the Beatles films.
“Maybe,” said Scott about Mescal starring in “The Dog Stars.” “Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”

This is the second actor to be accidentally confirmed for Mendes’ project. Previously, we had Ringo Starr confirm that Barry Keoghan would play him in the film series. Now, we know Mescal is, in fact, Paul McCartney. The other two actors being rumored for the films are Harris Dickinson for John Lennon and Joseph Quinn for George Harrison.
There really hasn’t been a project like Mendes’ Beatles film series. Developing four films at once and shooting them back-to-back-to-back-back is a huge undertaking. But then again, The Beatles are one of the most influential and beloved musical groups in the history of modern music. And the band’s story is incredibly interesting. So, it’s not surprising this is happening.
There’s no release date on the films, but production is expected to begin in 2025.
