It’s clear that the ruckus caused by director Doug Liman before the release of “Road House” earlier this year didn’t do much harm to the film’s debut. In fact, it might have helped draw attention to the movie, as it quickly became a monster hit for Prime Video. Makes you wonder if Liman was right, and the film would have done gangbusters at the box office. But I digress. What is important to know now is, according to Prime Video, “Road House” has been seen by more than 80 million viewers (with no hard stats to really back up the claim, but whatever), and that’s enough to earn it a sequel.
That’s right, according to Prime Video, “Road House” is getting a sequel and star Jake Gyllenhaal is returning to star. For those who missed the original film or the remake, “Road House” tells the story of Dalton, a mysterious man who comes to a local bar that is overrun by bad guys and cleans it up. Does that mean a sequel will take him back to the bar in the Florida Keys? Or perhaps, he’ll show up at a new bar that needs his help? We don’t know and it’s clearly too early for Prime Video to share any details.
What will be interesting to see is whether or not “Road House 2” ends up in theaters or not. Obviously, the first film is a massive hit for the streaming service, but will Amazon decide to release the film in theaters to turn some of those viewers into paying customers? Or is the tech company just content with drawing more people to Prime Video and selling some toilet paper on the side? We’ll have to wait and see.

The other major question is whether or not Doug Liman returns. He has a lot on his plate already, but the chance to make a franchise might be enticing enough. Again, we shall see.
You can watch the remake of “Road House” on Prime Video now.
