So “Iron Man 3” is happening then, yes? In an AP feature about Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming film “Due Date” alongside Zach Galifinakis, the article states, “Galifianakis said he expects to begin work this fall on the sequel to ‘The Hangover,’ while Downey said he aims to suit up for a third ‘Iron Man’ flick.” That might suggest to some that “Iron Man 3” will shoot soon? Not gonna happen. Jon Favreau is shooting, “Cowboys & Aliens” this summer and it’s sci-fi tentpole that he’ll likely have to spend year on at least (just like “Iron Man 2”). It seems super doubtful that Marvel would hire someone else. We wouldn’t sweat it too much, but we suppose it’s nice to hear that a third film is being discussed, but it had been reported before, the existence of the film is not new — Marvel didn’t create a nine year plan for nothing.[via ComingSoon who demanded a credit on Twitter, wish that worked for us].
Did you have any hope that the film adaptation of “Buck Rogers” — known to many as a cheeseball ’70s TV show, but also originated from a 1920s comic — was going to be any good? Might want to dash those hopes quickly. The film will be shot in 3D (naturally) and will be directed by Paul WS Anderson, the auteur behind such for-the-ages works like, “Resident Evil,” “Death Race,” and “AVP: Alien vs. Predator.” Even better: the company behind it is Paradox, the guys also behind the new “Conan” reboot. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Christopher Nolan started writing “Inception” ten years ago? Who knew…
The writers behind “The Rock,” Doug Cook and David Weisberg (one of the better 1990s action films) have sold their spec script “Blank Slate” which is described as a female oriented ‘Bourne’ film. Uhh, sounds like a memory loss type thing that is exactly ‘Bourne’ only with a female protagonist? Their work may be all for naught however. The sold the script to the producer of “Legion,” eww…
Warner Bros. are prepping an adaptation of the manga (Japanese comic book) “Bleach.” Can’t say we read it, but the story apparently centers on, “a 15-year-old boy who has the ability to see ghosts and meets a female Soul Reaper, a member of an order that escorts the souls of the dead.” Awesome. WB are obviously already adapting the manga “Akira.” [THR]
More unnecessary 3D — go figure! (James Cameron and Michel Bay take note). The films “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” and “Gulliver’s Travels” (starring Emily Blunt, Jason Segel and Jack Black) already scheduled to arrive in theaters this December will now arrive in 3D. Yes, that means they both weren’t authored in 3D and will be 3D-ified ala “Alice In Wonderland.” Sure that turned out well financially, but as Roger Ebert said last night on Twitter, “3D is a distracting, annoying, anti-realistic, juvenile abomination to use as an excuse for higher prices.” Amen.
Olivia Munn, co-host of the nerd show “Attack of the Show!” basically had to reshoot her entire role in “Iron Man 2.” [T]hey just gave me another role in the film. I had to reshoot all of my scenes,” she told Complex via Vulture. “[A]s they started to edit they realized it was becoming darker than what they’d expected and what my scenes had allowed for. My parts were lighthearted and comedic. … Jon Favreau called and was like, ‘I’ve got good news and bad news: This is what’s happening in editing but we all really like you.’ Marvel and Jon had to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included.” Hey, we’re surprised they kept her in there at all.
