Roland Emmerich to Tackle Shakespeare, Presumably Blow Him Up

Buried away in a story about German company Studio Babelsberg co-producing Dark Castle’s Liam Neeson-starring psychological thriller “Unknown White Male,” is a piece of solid gold. The next movie from director Roland Emmerich, (pictured on the left, demonstrating how many minutes he took to write the script for “2012”) will be “Anonymous,” a thriller focusing on the, quite frankly, bullshit theory that William Shakespeare didn’t write his own plays.

While news to us, this seems to have been in the works for some time. Emmerich spoke to Coming Soon earlier in the month about the picture, telling them “It’s about how it came to be that William Shakespeare was not the author of his plays. It’s not Marlowe, it’s De Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford. It’s kind of like a political thriller. It’s about who will succeed Elizabeth and the cause of that thriller, the Essex Rebellion, we take on and we learn how the plays were written by somebody else.” The script is by John Orloff, writer of “A Mighty Heart,” and the movie will start shooting on March 22nd next year, although Emmerich says he’s already shot some plates for the movie in England.

We never in a million years would have imagined this happening, but there we go. We have no idea how Emmerich will fit a tidal wave into this one, but we’re sure he’s got a plan: he does say, about the script, “Naturally, for dramatic reasons, you sometimes alter facts…”

Oh and Adam Lambert’s “2o12,” song leaked, but we so don’t even give a shit, we’re not doing anything more than an fyi.
