Sure, Prime Video is about to release a series based on the film, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” but that doesn’t mean the streaming service can’t mine a similar premise for its upcoming film, “Role Play.”

As seen in the trailer for “Role Play,” the film follows the story of a happily married couple hoping to spice things up with a bit of kinky role playing at a local hotel. But what happens next is definitely unexpected, as the husband comes to realize that his wife is actually a world-renowned assassin and has been hiding her double-life the entire time. So, the night of innocent role playing turns into a deadly adventure where he attempts to help his wife as she does a “one last job” sort of mission. So, yeah, it’s like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” except only one of the people in the relationship is hiding their deadly past.
The film stars Kaley Cuoco, David Oyelowo, Connie Nielsen, and Bill Nighy. “Role Play” is directed by Thomas Vincent. The filmmaker is probably best known for his TV work, helming episodes of shows such as “Reacher” and “Bodyguard.”
“Role Play” arrives on Prime Video on January 12, 2024. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
