It’s been eight years since we’ve been graced with another Derek Cianfrance film. Sure, since then, he’s released a limited series, “I Know This Much is True,” but still no features. Thankfully, that looks to be ending soon, as the director is finding his cast for a new true crime film, “Roofman.”

According to Deadline, Kirsten Dunst has signed on to co-star with Channing Tatum in the new Derek Cianfrance film, “Roofman.” The film is based on the incredible true story of a man who was sent to jail after robbing dozens of McDonald’s and entering through the roof. Thus the name Roofman. The film picks up when the man escapes from prison and hides from cops by secretly living inside a Toys ‘R Us. While there, he grows infatuated with a worker and strikes up a unique relationship.
Dunst is coming off a solid role in Alex Garland’s most recent film, “Civil War.” Prior to that, she starred in films such as “The Beguiled” and “The Power of the Dog.” She also appeared in the series, “On Becoming a God in Central Florida.”
Cianfrance is probably best known for his film work with projects such as “Blue Valentine,” “The Place Beyond the Pines,” and “The Light Between Oceans.”
It’s unclear when we might see “Roofman” appear in theaters. The film is clearly drawing closer to production, as casting continues. Perhaps a 2025 release is in the cards. We’ll just have to wait and see.
