Got a Tip?

Ruben Fleischer To Direct Alien Invasion Flick ‘The Regional Office Is Under Attack’

Ever since 2013’s “Gangster Squad,” director Ruben Fleischer has kept busy in TV, but he’s hasn’t gone behind the camera on any feature films. But it’s not for lack of trying. He’s lined up a number of projects, with none managing to get going, including: a big screen adaptation of “Cops”; heist flick “The Life And Times Of The Stopwatch Gang” with Miles Teller attached; an untitled drug mule drama; the “Home Alone”-esque “Overnight”; and an untitled sci-fi flick. And now, Fleicher is adding another to the pile.

The director is now attached to helm an adaptation of Manuel Gonzales’ debut novel “The Regional Office is Under Attack.” Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner will be penning the script for this action comedy about a secret organization of young female operatives who are tasked with protecting an unknowing Earth from a constant barrage of alien threats. Sounds like an interesting premise, and certainly one right in the wheelhouse of the “Zombieland” director for obvious reasons.

All that said, we’ll see if this actually makes it through the development process and into production. Looking at the laundry list of projects up above, luck hasn’t been on Fleischer’s side lately, but maybe this’ll be the one to see him finally back making a feature film.
