"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" draws ever closer, which means the rumor mill is only going to grow more feverish in the months and weeks ahead. However, the importance of the picture in relaunching a franchise, and a whole new world of films, can’t be exaggerated, and if the the latest buzz going around turns out to be true, it suggests that Lucasfilm is looking at Marvel‘s successful playbook to perhaps borrow a couple of moves.
Schmoes Know and Heroic Hollywood have both heard that J.J. Abrams‘ film will feature a post-credits clip and teaser for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," due in cinemas next year. Production has already started, so it’s not inconceivable that Gareth Edwards could cobble together something to slap on the end of ‘Force Awakens.’ That said, it sounds like exactly the kind of thing that would rub Abrams the wrong way, given how particular he is about the presentation of his movies, and it feels a bit incongruous with the series thus far, which has long tradition of keeping its secrets close to the chest. That said, these are different times than the original films and the prequels, so I could easily see Lucasfilm succumbing to the temptation.
Meanwhile, looking even further ahead, Benicio Del Toro has decided to muddy the waters a bit about his role in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," where, for a while now, he was expected to be a straight up bad guy. “I don’t know if he’s a villain,” he told ET. “People are saying that, but it’s like they read a different script than I read.”
“It’s nice to keep people in the dark, a little bit of mystery is good. If they want to believe it’s the villain, then good,” he added.
