Got a Tip?

Run The Jewels’ El-P To Compose Score For Tom Hardy’s Upcoming Al Capone Film ‘Fonzo’

If you’re a fan of hip-hop, then you’ve no doubt heard of Run the Jewels. The rap duo, consisting of Killer Mike and El-P, have seen their popularity skyrocket in recent years due to their politically charged music videos and songs featured in popular trailers, such as the “Black Panther.” But now, one half of the duo is making the leap to the big screen and the announcement has us incredibly excited.

BRON Studios just announced that El-P has been hired to compose the score for the upcoming Tom Hardy film “Fonzo.” The film, which we’ve covered pretty extensively thanks to Tom Hardy’s Instagram, tells the story of an aging Al Capone, who at 47, is beginning to deal with the effects of dementia. The film is written and directed by “Chronicle’sJosh Trank.

In a statement, Trank says, “Since I was fourteen years old, El-P’s music has been one of the most important creative influences in my life. There’s literally no greater honor for me than to collaborate with him today and bear witness to this next stage of his artistic journey.”

As mentioned above, El-P is half of Run the Jewels, which also had a flirtation with the big screen, when the duo was nominated for a Grammy for their song “Chase Me,” which was featured on the soundtrack for the Edgar Wright film “Baby Driver.” Also, the aforementioned “Black Panther” trailer featured their song “Legend Has It,” and that trailer went on to become a viral sensation and kickstarting the hype around the massive blockbuster.

“Fonzo” looks to be a film to watch out for, with El-P writing the music and the awesome cast that is headlined by Hardy. Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden, Matt Dillon, and Kyle MacLachlan also star in the film.

Honestly, this news about El-P shouldn’t have been such a surprise. We featured an Instagram post from Tom Hardy last week that showed the actor, as Al Capone, posing next to the rapper. But there’s no way we could have thought it was a sign of things to come.
