Let’s be honest, it’s not mean-spirited to say that Roger Ailes was not a great looking man, at least in his later years. Taking all political bias out of it, you can see that the Fox News mogul wasn’t going to compete for any Sexiest Man of the Year awards. But that being said, nothing can prepare you for Russell Crowe under pounds of makeup (and a fatsuit?) to play the aging Ailes in the upcoming Showtime mini-series “The Loudest Voice in the Room.”
Blumhouse Productions, the horror-focused production company who is apparently branching out into political biopics, released the first look at Crowe playing Ailes in the upcoming series…and it’s frightening. Of course, we’re the first people to say that you should never judge a film or TV series based on one out-of-context image, but what the makeup artists and folks behind the scenes of ‘Loudest Voice’ have done to Crowe is astonishing. And we’re not completely sure it’s a good thing.
As the Blumhouse Twitter account so perfectly stated, “His transformation into Roger Ailes is… insane.”
Yep, insane seems to be one of the better words to describe it. Of course, we need to see the rest of the cast, which includes Naomi Watts (as Gretchen Carlson), Simon McBurney (as Rupert Murdoch), Seth McFarlane (as Brian Lewis), and Sienna Miller (as Ailes’ wife Beth), before we can make any real judgment calls.
“The Loudest Voice in the Room” details the rise and fall of Roger Ailes, who was one of the most powerful men in media and politics before his world came crashing down after sexual harassment allegations from employees at Fox News.
The miniseries will debut later this year during the summer.
