More gods are coming to the MCU. Not too long ago, Oscar-winner Russell Crowe was spotted with “Thor: Love & Thunder” director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth at a South Sydney Rabbitohs game via social media. That led to the announcement that Crowe would be joining the sequel in an undisclosed role. The Marvel Studios sequel is currently shooting in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia at Fox Studios Australia, allowing actors already in-country to take bit parts out of convenience.
However, his Thor role isn’t much of a secret anymore or small either. While on a Melbourne radio show, Joy Breakfast With The Murphys, Russell revealed he was playing Marvel’s version of Zeus and had almost completed his scenes. Something fans had speculated as soon as he was announced for the film.

“I’m going to ride up to Disney Fox Studios, and at around 9:15, I shall be Zeus…my last day of Zeusing about,” Crowe told the morning radio show.

The implications of the role are a pretty deal, as Zeus is part of the cosmic beings known as The Olympians and this would be a huge nod to the arrival of Zeus’ son Hercules to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet another heroic member of The Avengers. It’ll be curious to see how Hercules is introduced into the MCU and if he might end up with a brief cameo in “Thor: Love & Thunder.”
We don’t know a lot about the sequel’s plot other than from we can gather from set photos. However, character-wise the fourth installment will see Natalie Portman return as Jane Foster but will be transformed into her heroic counterpart Lady Thor. The film’s villain will Gorr, The God Butcher, played by Christian Bale. Also, we’ll see Matt Damon return as Asgardian actor playing Loki from “Thor Ragnarok,” with Melissa McCarthy playing the stage version of Hela, previously portrayed by Cate Blancett. Several cast members from “The Guardians of The Galaxy” team were also in Australia shooting scenes with a much leaner of the Dadthicc Thor than we saw previously in “Avengers: Endgame.”
Disney has given “Thor: Love & Thunder” a release date of May 6, 2022.
