Over the weekend, filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo celebrated the one-year anniversary of the release of “Avengers: Endgame,” the monster Marvel hit that shattered just about every box office record and effectively closed out a decade worth of storytelling. And even a year later, after their time with Marvel has come to an end, it would appear that the Russos still look forward to the day they’ll work with the studio again.
Speaking to Esquire, promoting the release of their new film, “Extraction,” which they produced, the Russo Brothers talked about the possibility of reuniting with Marvel Studios for a new project in the future. And according to the brothers, it’s not a matter of if they will, it’s all about when they will go back.

“We adore Kevin [Feige], Lou [D’Esposito], Victoria [Alonso], and everyone at Marvel, and we’re always looking for another opportunity to work together,” said Joe Russo. “When the right one comes along, I’m sure we’ll all go make it.”
The brothers also explained that they still feel like they’re collaborating with Marvel, in a way. This is because producing films like “21 Bridges” and “Extraction,” starring Chadwick Boseman and Chris Hemsworth, respectively, as well as the upcoming “Cherry,” starring Tom Holland, reunites them with many of the stars from their time doing the Marvel Studios films.

“So in one way, that Marvel period is over,” said Anthony Russo. “But in another way, it’s continuing to evolve into new projects. With ‘Cherry,’ and Tom Holland, it’s the same thing. A lot of [Marvel] actors, we’re still developing and working with, and we still talk with Kevin Feige and Lou D’Esposito regularly.”
Obviously, if the Russo Brothers do return to the MCU, it’ll be a joyous occasion for fans of the superhero universe. Without a doubt, the duo was able to create some of the best films in the two-dozen-plus film history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the record-breaking films, “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
Speaking of ‘Endgame,’ on a recent edition of CinemaBlend’s podcast, the brothers talked about how their Marvel Studios swansong could be used by theaters to help reopen their doors and offer fans a chance to see the epic film on the big screen one more time.
“For us, that’s really the strength of the theatrical experience is that it combines audiences, and it combines you globally,” said Joe Russo. “To have been a part of movies that did that, on that scale with that level of emotional connection from the audience, was really very touching, and will be the highlight of our careers. So, using those films to get people back into the theaters? We would be ecstatic. I mean, any opportunity for people to go back and share in those stories together is one that we would support.”

Theaters have already talked about using library titles to help recoup costs when they reopen their doors. ‘Endgame’ would obviously be a film that could entice folks back.
