Got a Tip?

‘Rust Creek’ Trailer: A Young Woman Gets Lost In The Woods In Director Jen McGowan’s New Thriller

“I’ll take you somewhere safe” are the words you hear Jay Paulson speak just when you think he is a bad guy. This sentence leaves you holding your breath and crossing your fingers that he is indeed going to take Hermione Corfield somewhere safe and help her in the new trailer for “Rust Creek.”

Corfield plays an overachieving college student, Sawyer, who gets lost on her way to a job interview. A wrong turn leaves her stranded deep in the Kentucky forest where she encounters a band of ruthless outlaws. Sawyer is left to defend herself against the harsh elements until Paulson’s character, Lowell, comes to her rescue(?). She is forced into an uneasy alliance with Lowell, even though he has unknown intentions. It seems like he is on her side, telling her that if his cousins hear her scream from his trailer that they will kill her, but we will have to watch the movie to really find out who he is in alliance to.

The story of “Rust Creek” was written by Stu Pollard, with the screenplay written by Julie Lipson. The film is directed by Jen McGowan, who is best known for directing “Kelly and Cal” which premiered at SXSW where she won the Gamechanger Director Award.

With a release date of January 2019, this is one of the first films of next year to be directed by a woman, though 2019 is shaping up to be a big year for women directors. While McGowan wasn’t on our list of 15 female filmmakers that could direct horror in response to  Jason Blum‘s comments, based on this trailer, she is definitely showing Blum how it’s done.

Starring alongside Corfield and Paulson are Jeremy Glazer, Denise Dal Vera, Micah Hauptman, Daniel R. Hill, and Jake Kidwell.

“Rust Creek” hits theaters and VOD on January 4, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

An ordinary woman must summon extraordinary courage to survive a nightmare odyssey in this harrowing survival thriller. Sawyer (Hermione Corfield) is an ambitious, overachieving college senior with a seemingly bright future. While on her way to a job interview, a wrong turn leaves her stranded deep in the frozen Kentucky woods. Suddenly, the young woman with everything to live for finds herself facing her own mortality as she’s punished by the elements and pursued by a band of ruthless outlaws. With nowhere left to run, she is forced into an uneasy alliance with Lowell (Jay Paulson), an enigmatic loner with shadowy intentions. Though she’s not sure she can trust him, Sawyer must take a chance if she hopes to escape Rust Creek alive.
